Linux is Love

I've used so many computers with hardware specifications ranging from the Crappiest to the Cutting-edge. My first ever computer, that came with Windows 98 and XP dual booted taught me the most about patience, which I used for more than a decade. It's Hard Disks still function. The one that came after that, had access to Internet. Oh the Infections it caught! I had to wipe it clean every Wednesday, the first time taking all of my 20Gigs of Flash games with it.

The Windows XP CD wore itself to a point that at the end of the installation, my computer would be missing half the user interface and all of the drivers. I knew the XP Product key by-heart. This Computer would later go on to teach me everything I know about computers, teaching by making me do.

I learnt by doing.

Call me over-reaching. At one point in time, I wanted to write my own Operating System. After intense googling, 50 Articles and 10 youtube videos later, I realised, I needed to talk and write "Machine".

Enter SUSE Studio.

All I did with it was add software package bundles to the openSUSE project and download a bulky ISO, that I would call my own OS. I knew I didn't write it, but the guys I bragged about to, didn't.

SUSE studio was shut down last weekend.

I had used Linux before though. One of my friends got his hands on an Ubuntu CD, when it was blue and not Orange-Violet. He had no idea what to do with it. It had come with a random Tech Mag. I realised what it was as soon as I saw it. I tried it. I could try it before Installing! I already loved it.

When I actually used it though, I thought it was shitty. Why were the window controls on the left? I wondered if they were country specific like Roads and even tried changing the locale to India. But no, that was how it was designed, the app launcher was shitty. I couldn't run flash games or GTA - Vice City. Huge no-no.

I wouldn't know about its potential then. Forward a few years. I discover Virtualbox. I give the Orange Ubuntu a try. Few weeks in, I came to love Linux. I was still scared about what it would do to Windows if I dual booted. Few more days later, bought a new Transcend 4GB Pendrive, made it bootable with the Ubuntu ISO. With a fair bit of trepidation and a few more hours later, I had a dual booted system. Windows was Intact. Huge Relief and a sense of achievement. Daddy however was pissed he had to go through another step now, besides pressing the power button to get into Windows.

Through the Years, I have used and tried so many Operating systems on so many hardwares. Nothing has been more fascinating and fun as a Linux Distro.

I can automate it to do almost everything. The little black screen can do Wonders. I don't have to search for Setup files for softwares anymore. The best support and help on the Internet.

And I can Custom tailor it make it look however I want it to. I can even change the icon of the App launcher. Everything is plug and play. No drivers, no setups, hasslefree.

This is what I say to my friends, when I talk about Operating Systems. Mac is a Luxury, Windows is a necessity. Linux is Love!
